HOW TO GET FEATURED

Getting your company’s content on Rotorcraft News is straightforward.  If your website has a valid, publicly accessible RSS feed, we can likely begin aggregating your content immediately.  Here is what we look for:

  1. A Working RSS Feed
    • Your website needs a valid, publicly accessible RSS feed.  Most modern websites built on WordPress, Squarespace, Wix, or similar platforms include one automatically.  You can verify your feed is working correctly using the free W3C Feed Validator at validator.w3.org/feed/
  2. Quality Images
    • Articles with strong, relevant images perform significantly better on Rotorcraft News.  Make sure your posts include high quality featured images that are at least 800 x 450 pixels.  Real photos of aircraft, operations, products, and personnel make a much stronger impression than logos or generic stock images.
  3. Clear, Descriptive Headlines
    • Headlines should clearly describe what the article is about.  Our professional audience responds to direct, informative titles that communicate the news value immediately.
  4. Proper RSS Formatting
    • Your RSS feed should include the following fields for the best display on Rotorcraft News:  title, description or excerpt, featured image, publication date, author, and category tags.

RSS FEED BEST PRACTICES

If your website does not currently have an RSS feed, or if your existing feed is not optimized for aggregation, here are the most important improvements to make.

For WordPress Sites Your RSS feed is automatically available at yourwebsite.com/feed/ — Most WordPress sites are ready to aggregate immediately.  To improve how your content displays on Rotorcraft News, install Yoast SEO to add Open Graph image tags, make sure a featured image is set on every post, and avoid restricting your feed to excerpt-only if possible.

For Non-WordPress Sites Most modern CMS platforms support RSS — check your platform’s documentation for instructions.  If your platform does not support RSS natively, services like RSS.app can generate a feed from any website automatically.  Ensure your feed URL is publicly accessible and not blocked by a login or authentication wall.

Image Requirements for Best Display Use a minimum image size of 800 x 450 pixels in JPG or PNG format. Avoid text-heavy images as they do not scale well on mobile devices.  Real photography performs significantly better than stock images and makes your content stand out in the feed.

How Your Content Appears on Rotorcraft News

When your RSS feed is successfully aggregated, each article from your website appears on Rotorcraft News as a content card showing your featured image, headline, a brief excerpt, and the publication date.  Every card links directly back to your original article — sending readers to your website to read the full story.

Featured Images

The image that appears on your Rotorcraft News card is pulled directly from your article’s featured image.  If your RSS feed does not include a qualifying featured image, your articles display with a branded Rotorcraft News category fallback image.  Note that company logos and text-based graphics do not qualify as featured images — real article photography is required for your images to display on Rotorcraft News.  While this ensures every card looks professional, it means your specific article image and branding may not be shown. We strongly recommend setting a high quality featured image on every article you publish.

To ensure your images display correctly on Rotorcraft News, follow these guidelines:

  • Set a featured image on every post — do not rely on images embedded in the article body
  • Use a minimum image size of 800 x 450 pixels
  • Use JPG or PNG format
  • Avoid images that are primarily text, logos, or generic graphics
  • Real photography of aircraft, operations, and personnel performs best

Common Technical Issues That Affect Your Feed

We want to feature your content on Rotorcraft News but sometimes technical issues on your website prevent us from accessing your feed.  Here are the most common problems and how to fix them:

Server Blocking (403 Forbidden Error) — Some web servers are configured to block automated requests from RSS aggregators, even when a public RSS feed exists.  This is usually caused by security settings, Web Application Firewalls like Cloudflare, or hotlink protection enabled by your hosting provider.  If you would like your content featured on Rotorcraft News and are experiencing this issue, contact your web hosting provider or developer and ask them to whitelist RSS aggregator access to your feed URL.  Alternatively contact us directly and we can work with you to find a solution.

Invalid Feed Format — Your RSS feed may exist but contain formatting errors that prevent it from being read correctly.  Use the free W3C Feed Validator at validator.w3.org/feed/ to check your feed for errors.  Common issues include missing required fields, incorrect date formats, and malformed XML.

Feed URL Changes — If your website is redesigned or migrated to a new platform, your RSS feed URL may change.  If your content stops appearing on Rotorcraft News after a site update, contact us with your new feed URL so we can update our records.

Authentication Walls — If your RSS feed requires a login or is behind a paywall, we will not be able to access it.  Public RSS feeds must be accessible without authentication for aggregation to work.

No Images in Feed — Some websites publish RSS feeds that do not include image data.  In this case your articles will always display with the Rotorcraft News fallback image regardless of what images appear on your website.  To fix this, ensure your RSS feed includes either an enclosure tag or a media:content tag with your featured image URL.  Most modern WordPress themes do this automatically but older themes or custom setups may not.  Yoast SEO and similar plugins can add this functionality.
